Oslo, Norway - October 15, 2017
On the 12th of October, 2017, at the Istituto Di Cultura in Oslo, the World Arctic Fund presented results from it recent mission to the Arctic as well as showed plans for it upcoming 2018 airship Italia search mission to an international audience. Guests included Italian Ambassador Giorgio Novello, US diplomat Patrick D Martino and German Embassy Counselor Ulrich Peitz, who listened as President of the World Arctic Fund Simone Orlandini and two volunteers presented for 90 minutes.
The highlights of the presentation included scientific results from the Polar4 research mission of August 2017 around the Svalbard region, and a presentation of plans to search for the wreckage of the doomed airship Italia, which crashed north of Svalbard in 1928, whose remains the World Arctic Fund hopes to discover next year thanks to special sonar equipment lent by American company EdgeTech. If the airship Italia wreckage is discovered in the search mission, it will be extracted and donated to a museum, while the discovery and recovery of airship is expected to make global headlines.
